Therapeutic Supports

Work through what’s holding you back

Therapeutic Supports can help you understand difficult experiences, work through trauma and develop practical ways to manage the thoughts, feelings or situations affecting everyday life.

How we can support you

Let's look at the whole picture, together

What you’re experiencing doesn’t happen in isolation. Mental health, trauma, disability, relationships and everyday pressures can all affect how you feel and respond.

Our Therapeutic Supports draw on counselling, mental health nursing and trauma-informed practice to understand what is happening beneath the surface, not just the symptoms showing up today.

What is Therapeutic support

A space to work through it

Therapeutic Support gives you time to explore experiences, patterns and emotions that may be affecting your life now.

For some people, that may involve processing trauma. For others, it might be understanding anxiety, managing emotional responses, rebuilding confidence or finding different ways to cope when things become difficult.

Clinical Director Tracy Zachariya is a qualified counsellor and EMDR therapist with 12 years specialising in mental health nursing. Her approach brings therapeutic and clinical knowledge together, so sessions can consider both what you are feeling and the wider circumstances affecting you.

The benefits

Understanding can change things

Therapy is not about giving you a list of things you “should” do. It can help you understand why certain situations, thoughts or experiences affect you the way they do and develop approaches that are more useful in everyday life.

Trauma can continue to affect how you feel, think and respond long after the original experience has passed. You might notice anxiety, strong emotional reactions, avoidance, difficulty trusting people, disrupted sleep or situations that suddenly feel unsafe without always knowing why.

Our approach looks at those responses in the context of what you have experienced rather than treating them as behaviours that simply need to stop.

Tracy is trained in trauma counselling and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapeutic approach used to help people process distressing memories and experiences.

The work is paced around the individual. The focus is on understanding what is affecting you now and finding ways to reduce the impact it has on everyday life.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It is a structured form of therapy designed to help people process traumatic or distressing experiences that may still trigger strong emotional or physical responses.

Rather than relying only on talking through an experience in detail, EMDR uses specific techniques while you focus on aspects of a memory or experience. Over time, the aim is for that memory to become less distressing and have less influence over the present.

Tracy is a qualified EMDR therapist as well as an experienced mental health nurse and counsellor, allowing therapy to be approached with a broader understanding of trauma, mental health and recovery.

Whether EMDR is appropriate will depend on the individual and what they want to work on.

Therapy can be affected by much more than what happens during the session itself. Medication, changes in mental state, sleep, physical health, previous treatment and other clinical factors can all influence how someone is feeling.

Tracy’s 12 years of specialist mental health nursing experience means those factors can be considered alongside the therapeutic work. For example, a sudden change in mood or behaviour may need to be understood differently from a long-standing trauma response. Clinical knowledge can help recognise when something may need additional assessment or input from another professional.

It means our Therapeutic Supports are informed by both therapeutic practice and a strong understanding of mental health.

Talking about painful experiences can be hard, particularly if you have previously felt misunderstood or pressured to share more than you were comfortable with.

Trauma-informed care considers how safety, trust, choice and control affect the therapeutic process. You can work at a pace that feels manageable, and the approach can be adjusted depending on what you are ready to explore.

There may also be times when the focus is less about discussing the past and more about managing what is happening in the present, such as recognising triggers, developing coping strategies or understanding emotional responses. The aim is not to push through difficult experiences for the sake of progress. It is to make the work useful and manageable for the person doing it.

Yes. Tracy provides trauma counselling in English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Urdu.

For some people, speaking about deeply personal experiences in a second language can make it harder to find the right words or express exactly what they mean. Having the option to communicate in a familiar language can make conversations feel more natural and help reduce misunderstandings, particularly when discussing trauma, family experiences or cultural factors.

It can also be valuable for families who want to be involved appropriately but may find communication easier in a language other than English.

Achieve your goals

Work on what matters to you

Therapeutic goals don’t have to be broad ideas like “feel better”.

You might want to manage anxiety in particular situations, understand why certain experiences trigger strong reactions, sleep more consistently, rebuild confidence or feel more in control when emotions become overwhelming.

We focus on what is affecting your life now and what you would like to change.

That gives the therapeutic work a practical direction, while still allowing space for goals to change as you understand more about what is happening.
